Canonization of the First Millennial Saint

“The more Eucharist we receive, the more we will become like Jesus, so that on earth we will have a foretaste of heaven.”

– Bl. Carlo Acutis

In a world immersed in screens, teenage mystic Carlo Acutis saw beyond the social media-addicted society we live in and offered an answer... if we're willing to listen.

Blessed Carlo Acutis was 15 years old when he died of leukemia in a hospital in Monza, Italy, in 2006. He is remembered as a normal, joyful teenager who strove to be the best version of himself, living everyday life in an extraordinary way. Carlo was generous to the poor in his community, many of whom came to pay their respects at his funeral. His passion for the Eucharist eventually led to the conversion of his mother. Two quotes sum up Carlo's holiness in his youth: "Every person reflects the light of God" and "Sadness is looking at oneself, happiness is looking at God. Conversion is nothing more than a movement of the eyes." - Blessed Carlo Acutis

Carlo Acutis: Roadmap to Reality explores the life and legacy of the soon-to-be Saint Carlo Acutis and how he navigated the modern world. It tackles urgent technology-related questions, examining how the virtual landscape threatens our fundamental understanding of what it means to be human. The film also tracks the journey of a group of high school students who embark on a two-week pilgrimage from North Dakota to Italy to visit Carlo’s tomb. A requirement for their pilgrimage: disengage from technology and leave their phones at home.

The film features Carlo’s family and friends sharing their firsthand experiences and his impact on their lives. It also includes well-known voices in the Catholic Church and technology experts who offer a model for young people to engage in the digital world.

Pope sets Sept. 7 for joint canonization of Blesseds Acutis and Frassati

The two young Italian laymen will be the first saints canonized by the new pope.

VATICAN CITY (CNS) -- Pope Leo XIV will canonize Blesseds Carlo Acutis and Pier Giorgio Frassati together Sept. 7, the Vatican announced.

Meeting with cardinals living in and visiting Rome for an ordinary public consistory June 13, the pope approved the new canonization date for the two young blesseds and set Oct. 19 as the date for the canonization of seven others. He announced the dates in Latin.

The canonization of Blessed Acutis, a teenager known for his devotion to the Eucharist and creating an online exhibition of Eucharistic miracles, had originally been scheduled for April 27 during the Jubilee of Teenagers. It was postponed following the death of Pope Francis April 21.

Born in 1991 and raised in Milan, Blessed Acutis used his tech skills to evangelize and was noted for his joyful faith and compassion for others before dying of leukemia in 2006 at age 15.
Blessed Frassati, born in
1901 into a prominent family in Turin, Italy, was admired for his deep spirituality, love for the poor and enthusiasm for life. A member of the Dominican Third Order, he served the sick through the St. Vincent de Paul Society. He died at age 24 after contracting polio, possibly from one of the people he assisted.

The two Italian laymen will be the first saints proclaimed by the new pope, who was elected May 8.
